HARK, THE HERALD ANGELS SING

Charles Wesley was a hymn writer and poet who wrote the lyrics which appeared in a Methodist hymnal.

Felix Mendelssohn composed a cantata in 1840 to celebrate the invention of the printing press.

William Cummings much later put Wesley's lyrics and Mendelssohn's melody together and the carol "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" was born.

Hark! the Herald angels sing

"Glory to the newborn King!

Peace on Earth and mercy mild

God and sinners reconciled!"

Joyful, all ye nations rise

Join the triumph of the skies

With angelic host proclaim:

"Christ is born in Bethlehem"

Hark! the Herald angels sing

"Glory to the newborn King."
