OLD BUSINESS:

Events for the Second Annual Scranton Civil War Day for April 22, 2006, were discussed. Group activities for the day were outlined:

Members of the Delaney Delacy Guard would meet at Captain Hart’s home at 8:30 a.m. and proceed to Elm Park United Methodist Church for a 10 am - Ecumenical Service by the Scranton Central City Ministerium to bless all our country's Armed Forces.

Noon: members of the Delaney Delacy Guard would march from the church to the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel  for  the 2006 Pennsylvania Appomattox Day Luncheon and play "Witness at Appomattox" written by society president and first lieutenant Delaney Delacy Guard, Alan Sweeney.  Actor Chris Hughes would play the role of Robert Lincoln in the play.

It was reported that 56 people were coming to the luncheon.

2:30 p.m.: There would be a Civil War Military Concert featuring the 28th Regimental Brass Band of Philadelphia at the Scranton High School. It would also feature the Lackawanna Vintage Dancers and a salute by the Delaney Delacy Fife and Drum Corps.

8 p.m.: The Grand Civil War Ball at the Century Club featuring the 28th Regimental Band.

The sale of the building where our GAR museum is located was discussed. Joe Long said the closing of the sale would not take place until May and that he and Howard Wolfe soon hoped to meet with the new owners.

Joe Long asked for volunteers to carry the SVR, Spanish American, GAR and American flags in the July 4th ceremonies at Nay Aug Park. He said volunteers did not have to be members of the Delaney Delacy Color. Guard. Ray and Bob Sulger volunteered to each carry a flag. Mike    Grayson offered to count cadence on his drum.

A discussion was held on having the museum room open for public visitation on the Saturday before the Memorial Day holiday.  Some people have volunteered to be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The room was cleaned last month by volunteer members.

Camp 8 and the Delaney Delacy Guard will take part in Memorial Services to be held at the Dunmore Cemetery on Memorial Day. The following people volunteered to participate:

    Douglas Teeters: Pledge of Allegiance.

    Scott Teeters: Logan’s Orders

Judy Wolfe: Greetings, laying of wreath

Nancy Dickens: Greetings, laying of wreath

Fr. McLaughlin: Singing of the Lord’s Prayer

    John Hart – taps

It was also suggested that a Boy Scout volunteer was needed to read the Gettysburg Address. Dr. Rushmore who usually plays the echoes of taps was presently in Florida but should be home soon.

Robert Baker said there would be a Ceremony to rededicate the Civil War Monument in Montrose, PA on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. He requested that members of Camp 8 and the Delaney Delacy Guard be present to carry flags and form a rifle squad to fire a salute.

Ray Sulger said that Captain Hart mentioned a ceremony honoring John Delaney would take place in Carbondale on June 16th at 3 p.m. and members of Camp 8 and the Delaney Delacy Guard should consider participating. Delaney’s great-grandson would display his ancestor’s medal of honor and other medals from the Civil War.

NEW BUSINESS:

A motion was made and passed to accept Joe Long’s proposal for the purchase of a $22 advertisement in the magazine of this year’s National Encampment.

A second proposal for a quarter-page ad in the state magazine to thank our donors for the Civil War letters worth $47,000.

Joseph Long made a presentation to the Scranton Intermediate School. It consisted of several tables set up with Civil War artifacts. There was also some hardtack for the students to sample. He was given a certificate of appreciation and it was noted he has been doing these presentations for 25 years.

Mike Grayson passed out copies of a letter created by the American Legion. The letter is an example of one members might want to send to their congressman urging him to sign on as co-sponsor to H.R. 2679, The Public Expression of Religion Act of 2oo5.

Brother Joe Ferrara, who transferred into our camp, was officially recognized and welcomed.

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.

                                                    Respectfully Submitted,
