
MONTHLY MEETING
April 16, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Commander Raymond Sulger in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers, with Secretary Bob Shaffer absent.

The minutes from the May meeting were read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mike Grayson and seconded
by Dale Keklock.
All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:
End Balance as of April 5th was
$1,429.91
Help Money - $147.00
No ticket winner for March or April
– ticket #169 & #360
Joe Long paid the per capita tax so lowering the
account
A motion to accept this report was made by Mike Grayson and seconded by Dale
Keklock. All
were in favor.
COMMITTEES:
Bylaws
- Read and discussed.
This being the third reading, Mike Grayson made a motion to accept the
new changes.
A second was made by SVC Bob Sulger.
All were in favor.
There was a discussion to put the new By-Laws on the website.
Commander Sulger will contact Secretary Shaffer and also send a copy
to the Department as per Department Orders.
APPLICATION:
An application for membership was read.
Robert Garland: ancestor George Burkel.
The application committee was comprised of Frost Decker, Russ Jones
and SVC Bob Sulger.
They approved and the application
passed.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Joe
Long stated that he has a class from one of the local schools come to the Museum
for a tour
and discussion.
There were about 50-60 students in attendance.
Joe said everything went well.
2. Our
next open house is Saturday, 16 May 2009, between 12 and 3 pm.
If you plan on helping, please be there by 11:30 am.
Neat attire required.
The open house was discussed and moved to the 16th because
it conflicted with Memorial Day celebrations.
The camp felt that many people would be celebrating Memorial Day and
the turnout would be low on the 23rd.
3. Mike
Grayson brought up the Armed Forces Day parade which he felt the SVR and Camp
should attend.
He asked if there were any brothers who would like to carry the camp flag or
participate, if so, contact Mike.
4.
Memorial Day activities were discussed by Commander Sulger.
He mentioned that this will be our 109th celebration of the
glorious event.
a.
Howard Wolfe secured the PA system and will be available.
b.
Someone is needed to read Logan’s Orders.
Commander Sulger volunteered SVC Bob
Sulger.
c.
The Spanish American War, World War I and World War II re-enactors may be there.
Joe Long stated he will know by the end of the week.
d.
A tent was discussed, but would need to be set up on Friday night because the
company
does
not work on weekends.
The for a tent with poles was $299 and the ones with
stakes were between $499 and $599.
e.
Joe Long will get 20 to 30 chairs form the funeral home.
Scott Teeters stated he may
be able to get about 20 from the church.
f.
Captain John Hart still wants to have a service at Forest Hill Cemetery.
g.
SVC Bob Sulger asked if the event will be in the newspapers.
Commander Sulger said
he would talk to Press Correspondent Bob Baker.
h.
Everyone participating in the services will meet at the Civil War Veterans Plot
at 10:00
am.
i.
The program was discussed.
j.
Russ Jones invited the Ladies in to discuss their role in the Memorial Day
celebrations.
5. Joe
Long discussed the Encampment and that we still need ads for the encampment
book. Howard
Wolfe presented the Pennsylvania State Encampment Badge.
NEW BUSINESS
Commander Sulger read the Department Order from Department Commander John
McNulty regarding Junior Associate members and Associated which was a change
from National.
He stated that the Department Commander wants to know how the camps feel
about including Junior Associate in the Department By-Laws which will allow
camps to do so in the future.
A discussion was held.
The question was tabled until the May 19th meeting.
If anyone has any suggestions, questions or comments, please contact
Commander Sulger.
Bob Gregory presented a picture he got from Nick Petula to the Camp.
The picture was of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of
Gettysburg, which lists some of the prominent men of the day, including the GAR
Commander in Chief.
Craig Kelly presented a tent option he viewed in a catalog for
consideration and discussion.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was
made by Mike Grayson and seconded by Dale Keklock, all were in favor.
The meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
