MONTHLY MEETING
September 17, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Commander Raymond Sulger in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers.

The minutes from the June meeting were read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mike Grayson and seconded
by Bob Sulger.
All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

Joe also mentioned that he attended the Sandvik Employees Picnic at McDade Park and learned that they will be donating $100.00 as a result of their past visit to the Museum.
A motion to accept this report was made by Chet Kowalski and seconded by Bob
Gregory. All

MEMBERS IN DISTRESS:
Treasurer Joe Long recuperating from surgery.
The Commander then suspended the meeting in order to present Douglas Teeters a
membership certificate signed by the National and Department Commanders.
OLD BUSINESS:
Commander Sulger reported that the
stone for John Barnes has been ordered, but not yet received.
Commander Sulger also reported that the new National Graves Registration
Officer is Department of Rhode Island Commander Bruce D. Frail.
NEW BUSINESS:
Mike Grayson suggested that we purchase a wireless doorbell to help with
members gaining entrance on meeting nights and for Open Houses.
Russ Jones made a motion that we let Mike procure the doorbell and
give him a budget of $35.00 to do so.
Bob Gregory seconded and all were in favor.
Craig Kelly commented on the Camp website and the great job Secretary Shaffer and his daughter, Danielle, have done keeping it updated. Mike Grayson suggested that we include a photo array. He was asked to send pictures he would like displayed.
Bob Sulger showed a copy of the Valley Advantage in which a picture of 14 members of a Brass Band was printed. These men were members of the 56th Pennsylvania Volunteers who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. Mike Grayson added that this Company fired the first volley at the 2nd Mississippi confederate troops at Gettysburg.
Joe Long suggested the 3rd and 10th of December as dates for this year’s Christmas Party. A decision was made to have the party on the 3rd. Commander Sulger suspended the meeting to have a representative from the Ladies join us to get their views. They will confer and get back to us at the next meeting.
The next Open House will be held on October 17th, 2009.
Joe Long reported that the Gettysburg Remembrance Day Parade will be held on November 21, 2009. He also wanted to let members know that members of the Allied Orders have a dinner get together on Friday evening, November 20, at the Cross Keys Motor Inn, New Oxford. Joe has information if you wish to attend.
The Department Mid-Year Meeting will be held on October 24, 2009 in New Cumberland. Everyone is invited to attend. A discussion of the business for the 2nd half of the year will be held.
Joe reported that we must get ready for the 2011 Department Encampment at which Camp Brother Howard Wolfe will be nominated for Department Commander. We, as a Camp, should strive to seat as many members as possible to recommend Brother Wolfe for this office.
Commander Sulger reported that the Taylor Historical Society hosted a talk on the coal industry in the local area and also of old abandoned mines. Dale Keklock added that these men have put on programs up and down the valley educating people on this subject. Bob Gregory added that there was a tour of the Landsford #9 mine.
Howard Wolfe suggested we set up a committee to start planning what we should
do in the local area for the upcoming Sesquentenial celebration of the Civil
War. He also
suggested we set up a committee to review and gather information on local Civil
War monuments.
Commander Sulger stated everyone should get involved to gather as much
information as possible on these monuments; such as pictures, description,
condition, and physical location.
Howard will research and get the correct definition of a monument.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:
The Help Members 50/50 ticket winner was Russ Jones.
With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was
closed in ritualistic manner.
