MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

October 18, 2025

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Tim Chase.

Officer Excused: Bill Burns, Rich Ryczak, Hal Myers, Bob Baker, Tim Pierce, Paul Rogan, Bill Fischer and Howard Wolfe

 

All members received a digital copy of the minutes twice prior to the meeting.  A motion to accept the September minutes was made by Jim Jones and seconded by Bob Baker.  All were in favor.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

 Jerry Skotleski reported his monthly report.  A motion to accept the report was made by Bill Dixon and seconded by Giovan Lisi.  All were in favor.

 

SICK MEMBERS:  

Bob Shaffer let members know that Hal Myers hasn't been feeling well.

Tim Chase let everyone know that his father has been having some health issues but has come home and is resting.

 

EAGLE SCOUT COMMITTEE:

Jim Jones gave an update on the Eagle Scout program.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

All communications from the Department and National have been forwarded via email to all members.  

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Bill Dixon continues to look through the Minutes of the past two years and is compiling a list of old/unfinished business and will forward it to the members once compiled.

NEW BUSINESS:

A discussion was held on the Departmentr dues increase for 2026 ($3.00).  It was decided that dues for this year will not change.

 

A discussion was held on the early planning for our next presentation.  We are leaning toward February before the Super Bowl.  The discussion was tabled for next meeting.

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER:

An update was given on the custom-made case for Lt. Griffin's sword.

Bill Dixon gave an update on work being done in the Washburn Street Cemetery.

Bill Dixon brought up that Civil War soldiers were also Coal Miners that perished in the Avondale Mine Disaster in September 1869.  The deceased's graves have GAR markers.  A discussion was had to possibly have a small service in September 2026 to honor them.

Mark Myers brought up the excellent work the Battlefield Trust has been doing in Gettysburg and around the country.

 

The next montly meeting will be held on November 8th at 10am.

 

With no further business, the camp was closed in ritualistic manner by Commander Tim Chase.
